چکیده

In the course of our researches on the preventive action of stem bromelain (BRM), a protease obtained from pine apple plant, against the adrenaline induced pulmonary edema in rats, it was noticed that a pretreatment with this enzyme also inhibited the occur rence of the circulatory and respiratory changes caused by adrenaline which were remark able in the nontreated animals (1). This suggested that further analysis of the differences in the hemodynamic pattern might throw light on the mechanism of the pulmonary edema and the mode of action of BRM. In the present study, we made an investigation of the effects of BRM in rabbits and analyzed the data to locate the sites of action from the hemo dynamic point of view.

Background & Aims: The purpose of this study was to survey red blood cell distribution width after experimentally induced pulmonary embolism in rabbit. Due to oxygen transfer performance of red blood cells, the survey of their special forms and passable widths through the vessels in many diseases is vital. One of these diseases is pulmonary embolism in which red blood cell distribution wid...

Comparing Adrenaline with Tranexamic Acid to Control Acute Endobronchial Bleeding: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Background: Hemoptysis occurs due to either pulmonary diseases or bronchoscopy interventions. The aim of the present study was to compare the efficacy of the endobronchial instillation of adrenaline with that of tranexamic acid. Methods: Fifty patients were randomly selected as 2 double-blinded sample groups (n=25). In these patients, bleeding could not be controlled with cold saline lavage dur...

Quantitative evaluation of hemodynamic parameters during acute alveolar hypoxia and hypercapnia in the isolated ventilated-perfused rabbit lung

Introduction: Acute respiratory disorders such as obstructive pulmonary diseases and hypoventilation may lead to alveolar hypoxia and hypercapnia which their effects on pulmonary vascular beds are controversial. The aim of this study was to establish the isolated perfused lung setup and investigate the effects of alveolar hypoxia and hypercapnia on pulmonary vascular resistance. Methods: White ...
